How
has the entry level Microsoft Certified Professional credential
changed?
A candidate who has passed any current
certification exam (any exam that has not retired) as of October 1,
1998, will earn the Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) credential.
The exception is Exam 70-058: Networking Essentials; passing this exam
alone will not certify an individual as an MCP.
The MCP credential has evolved to
reflect changing job requirements. All current MCP exams measure an
ability to perform a set of job function–based skills with a single
Microsoft product. The new MCP requirement enables individuals to
acquire an entry-level certification that more closely applies to
today's skill set requirements.

If
I pass any one exam, will I receive all current MCP benifits?
Yes. Beginning October 1, 1998, any candidate who has passed
one certification exam will receive an MCP Welcome Kit and
benefits. If that exam retires, the certification is valid for
at least one year after the retirement date. (For specific
upgrade requirements associated with each exam.
The exception to this policy is Exam
70-058: Networking Essentials. Passing this exam but no others will not
qualify a candidate as an MCP.
